The Elders

From Undead Archive Staff

On the surface, Bettie and Joe Montague were considered eccentric. They collected odd things, fed stray cats, and told wild tales of their lives that may or may not have actually happened. Some would have called them doomsday preppers, while others might have referred to them as hoarders. Neither of them knew they'd have to leave their material belongings behind when they were trapped in the underground.

At first, it was only them and a handful of cats living by a sewer canal. But people were drawn to their personalities and started forming camps and colonies around them. Outsiders began to call them the Ratfolk, and Bettie and Joe were more than happy to take on the moniker. Together, they formed a culture of careful, but sardonic people -- pack rats who thrived on self reliance.

  • Hoarders: They have a lot of junk and a thirst for more. You never know when you're gonna need something.
  • Witty: There's always an inside joke between them, and they're always cracking it at your expense.
  • Compulsive Liars: What fun is the truth when a white lie is more exciting?
  • Animal Lovers: Don't ask how many cats they have. The number will change every time.
  • Thick-Skinned: They don't take themselves too seriously.
  • Mischievous: They love to fuck with you. It's hard to tell if they're being honest half the time.
